Ashley and Michael’s winter engagement session at Sapphire Point Overlook was the definition of a beautiful Colorado January day. The sky was clear, the sun was strong, and it was a toasty 45 degrees. If you’re familiar with Colorado, you know that this is warm enough to not even need a jacket when taking engagement photos!
The story of how this couple and I came to find each other is very much a “small world” story. Several years ago, I was the second photographer to Ashley’s friend’s wedding in Atlanta, Georgia. Fate led Michael and Ashley out to Colorado, and they happened to remember that I had moved out to this state as well!
With such beautiful weather, it only made sense for Ashley and Michael to bring along their beloved pup, Sadie. I always encourage couples to bring their pet to the session. It only makes sense to take photos with your beloved four-legged friend considering they are a part of your family. I only wish I could’ve had my dog, Rocky, involved in my engagement photos or wedding day.
In addition to pets, couples should think about bringing any props that help tell the story of their relationship. If you love to play the guitar, bring your guitar to serenade your fianc. Some couples bring a picnic blanket (along with snacks!) to paint a romantic scene. I’ve seen beach cruiser bikes, surf boards, and a vintage car all to help tell the story of your relationship. Ashley and Michael brought beer from a local Colorado brewery, where we pretended to chug and shotgun in the spirit of fun.
And whenever in doubt, bring some champagne to pop at the end of your session!
Ashley and Michael, I cannot wait for your wedding in August. Your day is going to be filled with so much joy, and I cannot wait to be present for the celebrations!
