This Catamount Ranch wedding in Steamboat Springs leaned into everything that makes this part of Colorado distinct.
Open water, rolling hills, and a landscape that feels softer than the sharper mountain environments further east. The setting carried a sense of ease, which shaped the entire day.
Nothing felt rushed. Nothing felt overly constructed.

The ceremony took place directly along Catamount Lake, with wide views stretching across the water and into the surrounding hills.
Guests were seated facing the lake, with florals grounded low to the ground in soft, layered arrangements. The palette stayed light and seasonal. Whites, creams, pale yellows, soft blues, and touches of peach.
It felt integrated into the landscape rather than placed on top of it.
The scale of the setting did most of the work.

The design throughout the day leaned into a softer, more garden-inspired direction.
Florals carried movement and variation. Nothing too structured or heavy. Table arrangements mixed textures, heights, and colors in a way that felt collected rather than styled.
Paper goods reinforced that same tone. Illustrated details, soft greens, and hand-drawn elements added personality without pulling attention away from the overall atmosphere.
Everything felt cohesive without feeling overly controlled.

The couple moved through the day without needing much direction.
Walking along the lake, interacting with their wedding party, small moments that happened naturally instead of being staged. That’s where most of the images came from.
This is the balance I aim for. Understanding light and composition, but letting the day unfold as it actually happens.
The result feels quieter. More grounded.

The reception was set under a sailcloth tent just off the water.
Natural wood tables, woven chargers, soft linens, and layered florals carried the design from earlier in the day into a more contained space. Overhead, greenery and woven pendant lighting added texture without overwhelming the tent.
As the sun dropped, the light filtered through the tent and shifted the entire space. It moved from bright and open to warmer and more intimate.
That transition is where these environments work best.

Dinner stayed relaxed, with guests settling into longer conversations and a slower pace.
As the evening continued, the energy shifted. The dance floor filled quickly, hats came out, and the tone became more immediate and celebratory.
That contrast, quiet to high energy, open landscape to contained space, is what gives these weddings dimension.

For a destination wedding in Steamboat Springs, this day didn’t try to compete with the setting.
It worked with it.
The lake, the hills, the pace of the environment all shaped the experience. The result felt elevated, but still grounded in place.
If you’re planning a wedding at Catamount Ranch or anywhere in Steamboat, this is the direction I aim to document. Light-driven, natural, and reflective of how the day actually felt.
